Our editorial policy
How we write our articles
Our articles are written by the DFACTO team and published under the company name. They are not signed individually: what we write commits the firm, not a person.
What we write about
We only write about what we practise: sourcing, producing and branding customised items and textiles for companies, since 1976. A subject we do not handle day to day does not become an article.
Our sources
We cite primary sources: the text of a directive rather than a commentary, a certification body's own standard rather than a summary of it. Every source is named and linked, so the reader can check without taking our word for it.
When a secondary source clarifies a point (a legal analysis, for instance), we cite it as such, alongside the original text and never in its place.
What we do not claim
We do not write what we have not verified. When a point is uncertain, still moving in law, or depends on a specific case, we say so rather than settle it.
Our articles provide general information. They do not constitute legal advice: for a decision that commits you, qualified counsel in the relevant jurisdiction remains necessary.
Our dates
Every article carries its publication date and the date it was last reviewed. We review our articles at least once a year, and whenever a text we cite changes. An article with an old review date is an article to treat with caution, ours included.
Our corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct the article and update its review date.
When the correction concerns substance, meaning a figure, a date or a rule, we state it at the top of the article: "Updated 12 March 2027: the minimum threshold for the FSC Mix label was given as 60%, it is 70%." One line, where the reader sees it before reading the rest.
Corrections of form, a typo or a turn of phrase, are not flagged: they change nothing in what the article states.
Our articles and our products
Our articles exist to be useful before they are commercial. We link from them to our ranges when it is relevant to the reader, never at the cost of a recommendation we would not make in a meeting.
